Learn to read music and understand the whys
and wherefores of music theory. Whether you
have a little background knowledge or none
at all, in this workshop K Mak will help put
any fears at bay and improve your ability to
communicate with trained musicians.

Hungarian Fiddle Workshop
Learn circle dance tunes from Gyimesi. The
style features solo violin with string drum
accompaniment and is suitable for beginners
as well as more advanced players.
MON WORKSHOP 6.00PM
Roger Corbett, songwriter for The Bushwackers
and hundreds of Independent artists, presents
a session that covers: how to make great
decisions in your songwriting and get to the
really important things about your songs; how
to achieve what outcomes you really want from
your songwriting; and technical tricks and tips
that will take your songwriting to the next level.

Junk Percussion Workshop
Ben Walsh has taught ‘found sound’ workshops
all over the world. An avid experimenter with
home made instruments; Ben will demonstrate
some of his inventions and lead an ensemble.

Lip to Lung, Larynx and Tongue
Explore the physics, physiology and ‘phrivolity’
of every sound a face can make with a cultural
jaunt into your gob. Sideways yodelling,
beatbox, throat singing, looping and safe vocal
distortion are explored with Mal Webb.

Right Hand Flamenco and Classical
Technique for Ukulele
For many years Ryo has studied a wide
range of different playing styles. His greatest
challenge was to figure out how to create bass
lines and melody lines to play at the same time
on the Ukulele. Learn the Paco DeLucia triplet
strum pattern... on an Ukulele!

Sevdah Songs of Eastern Europe
Learn the urban traditional songs of Bosnia and
Hercegovina with Čardak.

Simple Percussion for Beginners
Zaia believes rhythm is inside everyone! Using
hands, feet and simple hand percussion
instruments, Zaia will take you on a journey to
discover your inner rhythm, playing on beats,
off beats and even some odd beats!
THUR SAT WORKSHOP 4.30PM
Sing Like a Bloke (All Welcome)
Stephen Taberner and his trusted henchmen
from the Spooky Men’s Chorale will take you
on a gentle, whimsical, boofish journey through
various major components of the spooky
lexicon, including how to grunt with integrity,
how to sob like a ‘real man’, and how to be
like a 22 stone tribal chieftain. We’ll make
some interesting mansounds, then we’ll sing
a pyramid building song. It will be hugely
enjoyable, deeply redemptive, quite loud, and
utterly pointless. For all comers!

Gidgeeburra (Glenn Skuthorpe and Katie
Symes) delivers songwriting and sound
recording workshops to urban, regional and
remote communities and to festival audiences.

Swinging Fiddle Workshop
Get swingin’ on your fiddle with Gleny Rae
Virus, as she unpacks some Texan breakdowns
and Hot Club favourites! Learn improv tricks
and swingin’ licks, all with the backing of
Gleny’s fabulous Playboys. Beginners welcome,
but intermediate players are encouraged.

Teach a Song
Learn a Loveys song complete with chords and
vocal harmonies. Journey with them as they
explore their arranging and composing styles.

Vocal Workshop with Lindsay Lou
Delve into techniques to bridge singing the
contrasting styles of soul and bluegrass with
elite vocalist Lindsay Lou.

Poetry: Write To Speak
Try writing poetry designed to be spoken
aloud. Jacqui will give you ideas to get
started with writing for spoken word,
and workshop ways to get your words
working out loud as well as on the page.

Great Gatsby era in a partnered Charleston
class where Alice and Matt teach you the
basics of this quirky vintage dance.

African (Kenya) Ajuoga Dance
This dance embodies the medicine family
dance traditions of the Luo people of Lake
Victoria, Kenya. With the drum, the dance
movements dramatise the activities of a
healing process used for cultural nurture
and social wellbeing.
TUES DANCEHALL 4.00PM
African Dancing to the Ohangla
Ohangla style Luo tribal drumming and
dance is fast paced. It is a celebratory
dance - part of the trance genre performed
during marriages and funerals. Sam and
family teach Ohangla rhythms and dances.
MON DANCEHALL 5.45PM
African Wolayta Dance
If you like to shake your tail feathers and
dance with joy, then the Wolayta people of
southern Ethiopia have the dance for you!

beaches in Northern Brazil, it’s a stomping/
